Rants

by Ben Goren

Let’s face it: we all have opinions, as well as other body parts. Here’s where you can find some of mine. I generally don’t pull punches in these documents, though I do strive for politeness and consideration in the rest of my life. I don’t think there’s anything outside of this section that’ll give offence (at least, not much), but here…prepare to be offended—or else stop reading.

As does anybody who’s spent any time in the field, I have more than my share of complaints about the state of Web design.

I’m hardly the first to write on the subject, and I’m sure I’m not the last, but one too many flamefests on a certain mailing list prompted me to write my own rules of the road for the ’Net.

Those who know me know that I’m a firm supporter of civil liberties. I have, in the works, some papers on the topic—for example, about the cowardice of the Bush administration as evidenced in their decision to convene a kangaroo court in the wake of September 11th, or the decidedly un-American legislative antics of Disney^W South Carolina Senator Fritz Hollings. I’ll let y’all know when they’re done.
